£8,000 grant for North Devon dance group

A theatre company has received £8,000 to run dance classes for people with learning difficulties.

Many Directions Theatre Company were awarded the grant by the People’s Health Trust to create a 12-month programme of weekly dance workshops in Barnstaple and Bideford.

The courses will be organised by Wolf and Water Arts Company, a charity which works with disadvantaged and excluded communities.

The money was raised through the Health Lottery which has raised more than half a million pounds so far.

HealthContact Director, Chris Lunn said: “This fantastic project aims to improve the overall health and well-being of people with learning disabilities in North Devon through the delivery of specially-devised dance and movement workshops that explore a range of themes including emotions, rights to independence, choice, inclusion, safety, bullying, friendships, eating properly and keeping fit.”
