The road is now open and passable with care, although water supplies in the area are likely to be disrupted until 8.30pm while “urgent repair work” is carried out.
A spokesman for South West Water said: “Supplies in this area may be disrupted as we are currently doing urgent repairs.
“We expect the disruption will last for around six hours and the water will be back on by 20:30.
“When the supply is restored there may be a temporary change in the colour of your water but should quickly clear and this can be aided by running the cold water supply at the kitchen sink.
“We would like to thank you for your patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
South West Water also said the incident had caused “major damage” to the road.
