The Academy's under-18 women narrowly missed out on taking a set off Tendring Technology College who came back from 23-18 behind to win 25-23 before taking the second set 25-17.
Having seen the Academy trouble Tendring, Wessex fielded their strongest team for the second match and were too good for their opponents.
In the last match, against Richmond, the Academy found the teams were evenly matched but they lost 25-23, 25-21.
The under-18 men were great in defence and matched opponents from Wessex and Chadwell Heath but ended up losing 25-21, 25-17.
The Academy's under-16 boys suffered heavy defeats in their trip to London, losing to Wessex 25-5, 25-8 and Ernest Bevin 25-10, 25-12.
Denise Austin, the Academy's coach, said: "It was a tough but positive learning experience.
"These are their formative years competing and, while learning through some defeats along the way, the wins will come more frequently as they develop."
