Alex Surgeon is Bideford Rifle Club's youngest winner

ALEX SURGEON, aged 9, beat his mother to become the youngest member to win one of Bideford Rifle Club's trophies.

Alex finished a close second in the Reid Cup last year but won by a wide margin this time, with mum Sarah Pile in second place.
Alex started shooting with the club when he was 7 and takes part in bench-rest air-rifle events, competing with shooters of all ages.

The cup was presented to the club by Michael Coombs, who wanted a competition open to all members and disciplines.
The results are based on "percentage improvement" calculation, with the winning shooter the one who most improves on their average.
Another parent and son combination to take part were Clive Magson and his son Kieran, 7, who both started shooting this year.
