TOM ALLIN featured in a match-winning partnership at Lord's — guiding Cardiff University to victory in the MCC Universities Challenge Cup final.

Northam's Allin put on 95 with Bradley Wadlan to give Cardiff University Cricket Centre of Excellence a three-wicket win over Leeds/Bradford UCCE.

Paceman Allin, 21, who is on Warwickshire's books, had earlier taken 3-45 as Leeds/Bradford posted 236-7 from their 50 overs.

He then strode to the crease after 30 overs with Cardiff struggling and made a vital 28 not out, giving good support to Wadlan (88no).

After playing himself in, Wadlan began hitting out and stroked the ball through the covers for the winning boundary with seven balls to spare.

Allin, the son of former Devon and Glamorgan spinner Tony Allin, is pushing to make his debut for Warwickshire when they play Sussex at Edgbaston next week in the LV County Championship Division One.

Allin and Braunton's former Somerset and England batsman Mark Lathwell have been named in a 14-man Devon Cricket Board squad to play Nottinghamshire at Exmouth a week today.

The Twenty20 match is part of Chris Read's benefit year. The Notts wicketkeeper was born and raised in Paignton.

Allin's North Devon club-mate Dan Bowser is in line to make his bow for Devon in their three-day Minor Counties Championship match against Shropshire at Shifnal, starting on Sunday.
