THERE was a vast improvement from Appledore under-10s in an enjoyable 1-1 draw with Bideford Blues.

Appledore had been beaten 7-1 by Blues in September but on Sunday they denied the West Country Cleaning Services North Devon Youth League leaders maximum points for the first time this season.

Appledore took the lead early in the second half thanks to a fine goal struck from just outside the box by Sami Gillett.

It was just reward for Sami's side, who had shaded the game to that point.

Blues responded well and equalised thanks to a goal from Logan White ten minutes from time.

Both teams had chances to win the game but were denied by fine displays from the goalkeepers.

Fremington kicked off 2013 with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at South Molton.

The hosts opened the scoring with a neat finish in a tight first half.

Fremington battled to stay in the game and looked dangerous on the break in the second half.

Their excellent team performance was rewarded when Logan Warren grabbed the equaliser after latching on to a return pass from Connor Hopkins, rounding the keeper and finishing coolly.

South Molton threw everything at Fremington in the remaining minutes but a combination of tireless running from Nathan Ware, goalkeeping heroics by Marshall Hooper and solid defending from man of the match Kai Harris kept them out.
