Apprentice open evening at Appledore Shipyard
PROUD friends and family of Appledore Shipyard's newest recruits were welcomed to the yard during an open evening last week.
Around 80 people turned out in support of their sons, grandsons, brothers and friends and were given a unique insight into the development of the Royal Navy aircraft carriers project.
Shipbuilding director Andy Hamilton said: "It was great to see so many people turn out in support of the boys — all taking a keen interest. It was really heartwarming.
"We are very proud in Appledore to support our armed forces."
One of the visitors included a grandfather who had served aboard an aircraft carrier.
Mr Hamilton said: "There was a real sense of pride within the community, both for the project and the proud Appledore history."
