Atlantic Array factfile
● The Atlantic Array will be 14km — about nine miles — off the coast of North Devon and 18km off the coast of South Wales.
● The 350 turbines originally planned by Farm Energy at the instigation of the project, will now be nearer 250 because new models are more powerful.
● The energy generated will be enough to supply 1.1 million homes — around 40% of the homes in the South West.
The construction timetable could be:
● Surveying work complete by mid-way through 2012
● Planning consents granted in 2013 with land-based construction work beginning towards the end of the year.
● Turbine construction beginning in 2014
● First phase of construction completed in 2015.
● Project completion in 2018.
