The Atlantics release their first album
HERE'S something to get you rootin' 'n' tootin', writes Rosanna Rothery. Put your jiving shoes on people, it's time to party. One of the hardest working bands on the rock 'n' roll scene have released their first recording.
Big Beat Boogie is the first CD from popular North Devon based rock 'n' roll band, The Atlantics. It includes four classic covers and nine rocking original tracks, all in the vein of the music they love: 1950s style rock 'n' roll.
One listen confirms just why this band are in such hot demand. This is lively, upbeat, fun music (there's not a single downbeat track). You'll feel compelled to put on a pair of blue suede shoes and have a bit of a boogie and bop around the living room with a big grin on your face. The big 1950s sound is delivered with style: vocals, guitar, standup bass, honkin' sax, piano and drums. A sociable sound — bound to get any event, party or dance reelin' and rockin'.
The Atlantics aimed to keep it local when recording, using the Music Mill studios in Newton Abbot owned by top audio engineer, producer and desk designer Malcolm Toft.
Using the studio's live room they've very successfully captured the energy and sound of their live performances on this CD. Indeed, I'm sure this rather good rock 'n' roll album will have earned them a place in the Rock 'n' Roll Heaven, they sing about.
Local gigs are coming up between national dates and include Bude Jive Club on Saturday April 18, the Summertime rock 'n' roll weekender in Tiverton on Friday June 19 to Sunday June 21 and the Plough Arts Centre on Saturday August 22.
