It is understood the outbuilding where the fire started had an abestos roof which has made the incident more difficult.

Officers said an elderly couple who live at the two-storey property have been accounted for.

A fire investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fire. One firefighter at the scene said fire crews got to the scene just in time and had they been 10 minutes later the whole roof would've probably gone up in the blaze.

It is understood smoke from the fire can be seen from miles around.

Belinda West Gallery took to Twitter to share news of the fire:

@bbglebe posted: “House fire on outskirts of Holsworthy. Lots of black smoke. Fire engines on way. Hope everyone OK” before adding: “We can see the smoke from the hospital think it’s over Manworthy way.”

The incident comes less than 24 hours after a fire broke out in a shed at a farm in nearby Bradworthy. Three fire crews were called to the brick shed fire at Cleverdon Farm at around 2.20pm yesterday.
