Baby lambs and crafty ideas create half-term fun for North Devon families

HALF-term is just around the corner and the area’s family attractions are opening their doors to help keep children entertained. Here are some fun holiday ideas:

The Big Sheep, near Bideford, is open from Saturday, February 11, to Sunday, February 19, with a special Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 14. (The tourist attraction will donate £1 to The British Heart Foundation for every visitor wearing an item of clothing, jewellery or accessories which features a heart).

CRAFTY FUN: Family activities are on offer at RHS Rosemoor this half-term.

If you are very lucky you might see lambs being born. Lauren Masters, who plays midwife to the sheep, said: "Some adults and children have never seen a ewe give birth and it is fantastic to witness their the sheer look of wonderment on their faces when a new lamb is born."

Older children might enjoy Battlefield Live with state-of-the-art laser guns and an action packed activity morning on Thursday, February 16, 10am to 12.30pm for children aged between 8 and 16 years. Reservations: 01237 424444. The Big Sheep's outdoor toboggan ride and ice skating rink will also be open at half term.

February half-term at RHS Garden Rosemoor near Torrington is full of fun family art activities.

Create your own clay bird, bird's egg or nest and then decorate them with bright colours in a Clay Bird workshop on Monday, February 13. Join in a Tin Can Wind Chimes workshop on Tuesday, February 14.

There's an Altered Art workshop on Thursday, February 16, in which you can create your own hanging masterpiece using unwanted card and other materials. Get creative with wax crayons, watercolours, collages and rubber stamps.

The drop-in workshops run on each date from 11am to 1pm or 2 to 4pm and are suitable for children 8 to 12 years old. Children under 8 are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Normal garden entry fees apply but workshops are free.
