The 11-year-old has been a member of Tiverton Stagecoach Theatre Arts since 2010 and has taken two London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts examinations at distinction level. He auditioned for the role of one of the small army of junior clowns by way of a video audition back in May and was successful.

The programme has a gameshow format and was filmed at the Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton, West Devon, over eight days during the summer holidays in front of a live studio audience of more than 150 people.

Josh chaperones the contestants to and from the stage, introduces various games and sings an introductory song to one of the games.

The Tiverton High School pupil said: "It was great working with Dick and Dom and putting into practice all the things I have learnt at Stagecoach.

"Each day's filming started by going onto the make up trailer then into a costume trailer. There was quite a bit of waiting around and then it was onto the set. A quick chat with the producer told me what to do and then it was '...here we go...action'."

Josh is not just interested in small screen acting, though, as he demonstrated in the youth tent at the Mid Devon Show this summer, when he delivered a series of solo stage performances which grabbed the attention of the audience.

Stagecoach Tiverton principal Lisa Isaac said: "Josh is a natural performer who always works hard in all his classes to get everything just right. The feedback I got from the show's producers was very positive, which came as no surprise, as Josh is consistently a credit to our school.

"I had every confidence he would behave like a young professional on set and be very responsive to direction. Everyone has been excited about seeing him in the series."

You can see Dick and Dom's Hoopla! on Friday evenings at 6pm on the CBBC channel.

The programme features Dick and Dom's circus tent visiting a different fictional town each week, awarding a 'Golden Hoopla' to members of the audience, who then compete in a final challenge.

Dick and Dom – real names Richard McCourt and Dominic Wood, who hails from Exeter – have been familiar faces on children's TV for a decade.
