Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club looks for name for new boat
A NORTH Devon Pilot Gig Club is on the hunt for a name for its new training boat.
Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club bought its new boat thanks to the generosity of club members and friends.

And the club is offering local people the opportunity to bid for the naming rights. Club press officer Chris Walter said: "The name will have to suit the sport and club and will have to be approved by the club committee before being agreed.
"Traditionally names follow nautical history, female names or local landmarks."

The bids will be collated and a weekly highest amount will be posted on www.barnstaplepilotgigclub.co.uk.
The closing date for bids is January 26 and the highest bidder will be informed shortly after. The name will then be added to the gig and once it's delivered a naming ceremony will take place, with the highest bidder invited to christen the gig before it embarks on its maiden row.
