BARNSTAPLE TOWN have announced a new partnership with SAS Youth to help young players make the step up to men's football.

From next season, a combined Barnstaple Town and SAS team will play in the new under-18 division of the North Devon Youth League.

The under-18s will be invited to train regularly with the Barnstaple first team and a newly-formed reserve side.

Barnstaple manager Tom Bulley and members of the first-team squad will also provide coaching sessions for SAS players.

SAS, who play home matches at Raleigh Meadow, will also play some under-13, under-14, under-15 and under-16 matches under floodlights at Mill Road.

Through a membership card scheme, SAS players will have free admission to all first-team home games.

Lee Smith, the Barnstaple Town community development manager, has organised the new partnership.

He said: "A lot of young players drift off and can't make the transition from youth to adult football.

"The partnership will have mutual benefits for Barnstaple Town and SAS and provide a bridge to adult football."
