Barnstaple's Queen's Theatre receives nearly £350,000 in funding
A theatre in Barnstaple is to receive nearly £350,000 of funding to help improve its backstage facilities.
The Queen’s Theatre, situated on Boutport Street, will benefit from £346,825 after an application for capital funding to Arts Council England was successful.

The funding application, submitted on their behalf by North Devon Theatres’ Trust, will be used to improve disability access backstage, provide an electric winch system to enable automated changing of scenery, install elevators for the stage extension and the orchestra pit and replace stage lighting.
Alan Giddings, Chief Executive of North Devon Theatres’ Trust said the funding was “fantastic” news for the theatre.

He said: “We can now continue to maintain the Queen’s Theatre as a centre of excellence for arts and entertainment for the people of North Devon. We can also look to a more efficient future running of the theatre.
“In 1994, the refurbishment that North Devon Council undertook was a huge leap forward for theatre provision in North Devon; this is another giant step nearly 20 years on and we can’t wait to see the results.”
The overall cost of the refurbishment scheme is around £550,000 and work will be carried out during the summer.
