James Bath suffered a broken hand while playing for Exeter College
The 18-year-old England Colleges international joined Barnstaple last month to cover for the absence of Ben Vellacott and made his debut in the 46-27 defeat at Chippenham at the weekend.
With Vellacott unavailable again, Calum Sumners will step up from the colts team to start at scrum half in Saturday's National Three south west clash with Exmouth at Pottington Road.

Barnstaple lost scrum halves Nielson Webber and Richard Friend to Cornish All Blacks last summer.
Vellacott has impressed in the No 9 shirt but his appearances have been limited by commitments to Scotland under-18s and the Exeter Chiefs Academy.
Luke Berry, Neil Giddy and Ross Williamson have all filled the role this season.
