BARNSTAPLE Tarka A survived a fright against Westward Ho! B

to reaffirm their position at the top of the North Devon Men's

Tennis League.

Barum were pushed all the way by the Ho! second string but

held on to claim a slender 14-10 win.

Paul Ley and Simon Poyner kept the visitors in it when they

beat Ian Leonard and Steve Jenkins 7-5, 6-1 and then won a

tie-break against Andy Koval and Dave Sloman 14-12.

But Mark Clayton and Steve Clements were unable to do the

same and the leaders edged home.

Tarka had a point to prove in their next outing, and they

did so in emphatic style with a 24-0 whitewash of Rock Park

A.

Leonard, Peter Hedge, Chris Hills and Ian Coggins made up

the winning quartet, who extended the club's lead at the top of

Division 1 to 34 points.

Sally Langford, Sue Doncaster, Anoushka Lobato and Marian

Vinall were in unstoppable form, and they now have an

eight-point lead at the top – with a whopping four games in

hand over second-placed Barum.
