Belief grows for Molton
SOUTH MOLTON coach Shaun Clemmet welcomed a confidence-boosting win for his young players.
After scoring early, they were never in any danger against Tribute Devon One strugglers St Columba.
Two tries from Dan Smith, the No 8 and captain, helped Molton to a 29-10 win.
Clemmet said: "The pack played well and set the platform and we scored a try or two out wide through good hands.
"It was a makeshift back line but it came up trumps.
"We are trying to get them to believe in themselves that they can play that type of game.
"The more we win, the more confident they become."
Molton bounced back from the previous week's defeat to OPM, which ended a three-game winning streak, and halted St Columba's own two-game mini-revival.
"They targeted it as a game they were looking to win," said Clemmet, whose side did not give their hosts a chance, opening up a lead through back-rowers Smith and Sam Howard.
Smith and Steve Ayre, who kicked two conversions, combined for a try finished by Roger Pincombe, followed by one for Dave Northcott.
Ben Green kicked a penalty for St Columba, then scored and converted a try in a bright second-half spell. But South Molton completed the job when Smith crossed again.
