Bert's book goes back to the very beginning
A COMBE MARTIN man has written a book about his farming life in North Devon and his experiences with the world of milk.
Bert Collacott, who now lives in Girton, Cambridge, has privately published his autobiography, which he has called Black Sheep, Cattle Breeding and Orderly Marketing of Milk.
Bert, who was born in 1926, started working on the land at the age of 13 but later left the family farm to work for the Milk Marketing Board for 38 years.
The 242-page book's opening line is: "I was almost certainly conceived in a farm out-building, under a hedge, or in the beautiful heather of Exmoor, toward the end of 1925."
His paperback is available at £12.99 from the Book Shop in Ilfracombe High Street.
