Barnstaple Town lost 3-1 at home to Gillingham Town in the Toolstation Western League premier division.

After taking a second-minute lead through Ethan Phillips, Barum conceded a soft equaliser to Jack Vallis with a free header at a corner.

Dan Cox headed Gillingham ahead on the hour and Barnstaple's chances suffered another blow when goalkeeper Darren Rose was taken off with a thigh injury.

Ian Rowe, a defender, took over in goal but was powerless to prevent a second goal from Cox in stoppage time.

The win took Gillingham up to third while Barnstaple remain bottom of the table, three points adrift of Willand Rovers.

Ilfracombe Town are through to the second round of the Western League's Les Phillips Cup.

The premier division side beat first division opponents Cribbs Friend Life 2-0 at Marlborough Park this afternoon.

After a goalless first half, the victory came with first goals of the season for Gary Skinner and Scott Huxtable. Skinner's strike was also his first for the club.
