Miss Mary McCarthy, prosecuting, said the Crown will not pursue an alternative charge of sexual assault or an additional one of causing actual bodily harm.
She said Cowland has pleaded guilty on the full facts of the case against him, of which the alleged assault formed part of the background.
Mr Gareth Evans, defending, said the sentencing judge would benefit from a full report by the probation service and Judge Francis Gilbert, QC, remanded Cowland in custody.
He also ordered him to sign on the Sex Offenders’ Register immediately.
