Chippenham pulled one back through Tom Knighton's tap-in but Downing lashed in to restore the three-goal cushion in the 53rd minute.

Three minutes later, after Chippenham's Adie Harris was sent off after being shown a second yellow card for a late tackle on Matt Andrew, Downing scored again, shooting in off the post.

Downing surged down the right wing to set up Andrew for Bideford's sixth goal and Squire made it a magnificent seven for the ruthless Robins nine minutes from time.

Bideford's win earned them the honour of being chosen as Robbie Savage's non-League team of the day on BBC 5Live's 606 phone-in.

Assistant manager Rob Dray spoke to Savage and fellow presenter Dan Walker, revealing the players were to be treated to a KFC meal as a reward.

Ilfracombe Town have leapt five places to eighth in the Toolstation Western League premier division after Shaun Lewis's second-half goal gave them a 1-0 win over Longwell Green Sports at Marlborough Park.

Barnstaple Town remain nine points adrift at the bottom after suffering an 11th successive defeat. But even hosts Cadbury Heath, in third place, had to admit they were fortunate to record a 3-1 win.
