The match kicked off 15 minutes late as some running repairs had to be made to the pitch.

After a lively opening, Barnstaple took the lead on 21 minutes through a long-range strike by Jed Harper-Penman – his third goal in two games for Barum since being released by Plymouth.

It took just five minutes for Ilfracombe to equalise when Tucker, the ex-Barnstaple forward, skipped through and fired in off the post.

A quiet second half came to life when Steve Holland and Turner scored for Ilfracombe.

Barnstaple's young side refused to admit defeat but Tucker's spot kick finished them off.

Barnstaple remain seven points adrift at the bottom of the premier division, while Ilfracombe rise four places to ninth.

Bideford are through to the quarter-finals of the Devon St Luke's Cup after an experimental team hit back from 3-1 down at half time at Elburton Villa to win 4-3.
