Bideford 0 Boca Seniors 6: At the end of a 41-match unbeaten run in the North Devon League, Bideford manager Sam Stephens described it as "the ultimate bad day at the office".

The premier division leaders were torn apart as Boca Seniors opened up the title race with a stunning six-goal blast.

Frustrated by a lack of matches and patchy form in recent months, the champions sent out the message "our season starts here".

Goalkeeper Peter Ellis could only gift the ball to Matt Deakin for the first goal and a shot from Mark Barrow slipped through to make it 2-0 inside ten minutes.

The onslaught continued in the second half with goals from Scott Sharp (two) and Jack Jenkins before Deakin rounded things off from the penalty spot.

And Darren Babb – recalled in place of Jimmy Thorne in goal – became the first keeper to stop Bideford, the senior division champions, scoring since April 2011.

Having witnessed his team blow a 3-0 lead to crash out of the Torridge Cup at Halwill, Darren Todd felt far happier.

"We had a little heart to heart and, to a man, everybody stood up and responded exactly the way we expected them to," said the Boca manager.
