THREE goals in 13 second-half minutes ensured the Brayford Cup will remain in Braunton's possession for another year.

The holders beat Torridgeside 3-0 at North Molton.

After the disappointment of a Torridge Cup final defeat to Barnstaple AAC, they were determined not to end the season empty handed.

As soon as Mark Sanders slammed in the opening goal on the hour, the outcome was never really in doubt.

The striker was not happy with the contact he made on the long-range strike, but his swerving effort slipped past Lee Cockwill down the middle of the goal.

Within a minute it was 2-0. Jake Barwick linked with Sanders and the ball dropped for Russell Harrison to smash low into the corner.

Then Anthony Casinelli pounced on a slip from Tom Hampton for the third after a long ball from fellow substitute Elliot Whitecross.

The swirling wind, bumpy surface and long grass did not suit two sides who like to get the ball down. But Braunton, with their greater strength and experience, had the edge over young and energetic opponents.

Torridgside played brilliantly to reach the final with wins at Combe Martin, Bradworthy and Bideford.

And if another upset was on the cards, they needed to take at least one of their early openings.

Kyle Paine's driven cross just begged for a finishing touch, while Nathan Walter had a shot blocked by Dave Bennett.

Walter and Martin Boundy were unable to hit the target after further chances soon after the restart.

Losing Corey Hynd with an ankle injury in the first 17 minutes was a blow for Torridgeside and they were forced to make a second substitution as Ian Cockwill left the field with a broken nose.

Man of the match Harrison took a knock too, clattered by Lee Cockwill on the touchline.

If the goalkeeper was slightly relieved to only be shown a yellow card, it was the same for his opposite number, John Vaughan.

He handled outside the box as Paine, Torridgeside's most influential player, chased a ball over the top.

Gradually, Braunton's grip on the game grew.

The lively Harrison had a header cleared off the line by Paddy Ions before the three-goal flurry clinched the trophy for the eighth time.
