Braunton turn it around with a seven-goal blast
WHAT a difference four days made for Braunton in the North Devon League premier division.
After being given the runaround in a 4-1 defeat at Appledore on Saturday, they struck seven against Combe Martin on Tuesday night.
Drawing 1-1 at half time after James Galliford had given them the lead, Braunton ran out 7-3 winners following a crazy second half.
Elliot Whitecross, with a double, and Simon Townsend were both on target against their former club.
And with Dale Darch enjoying a fine first-team debut, the hosts completed the rout thanks to Dean Wall and two more from Tom White.
It was a total contrast to the weekend when Appledore celebrated their first league win over Braunton in years.
Phil Kelly, relishing his new role up front, crashed the Fishermen ahead with a sweet strike, after Mark Cann's opener was cancelled out by Whitecross.
And new signings from Clovelly, Tom Forrester and Dave Brown put the seal on a fine display to leave Kevin Fishwick's young side buzzing.
Four teams have won their opening two games and none has scored more than Torridgeside.
They took their tally to 11 in two games against Ilfracombe Town — despite falling behind just after half time.
Cory Hynd, looking sharp on his return from rugby, struck twice to turn things around before Mark Sussex and a double from Kyle Paine, including a penalty, completed the comeback.
Just one goal was enough for Bideford to make the short trip home from Shamwickshire Rovers with a win for the second season running.
Richard Chumbley got it, turning in a cross from Jack Langford to reward the Robins' pressure in the last 15 minutes.
For the second week running, Torrington came from behind to outscore Putford as new signings Jake Shambrook and Carl Mott did the damage.
Dan Wilson put the home side in front but Mott, the former Torrington Admirals midfielder, scored twice, including a deadly effort from distance.
Two wins in four days have boosted Barnstaple AAC after losing a host of players over the summer.
They got off the mark against North Molton last Wednesday thanks to Ed Yeo, Mark Sanders and a ferocious winner from James Marsh against his former club.
And their spirit was shown again at Bradworthy on Saturday despite falling behind to Michael Sampson's header and losing new signing Mike Smith to a knee injury.
Gary King, pushed forward from defence, grabbed the equaliser and Kyson Chugg scored twice in the second half.
First-half goals from Scott Sharp and James Davey put Boca Seniors in command at Dolton.
And they stood strong for a clean sheet when Darren Babb saved a penalty from former Boca man Mike Cowell.
Ilfracombe Town and Georgeham turned up at Marlborough Park to play on Tuesday but, without a referee, the match was postponed.
