Brendon Show in its 89th year
WHILE traditional country shows are said to be in decline, organisers of the Brendon Show say they are still going strong and are about to stage theirs for the 89th year.
The traditional Brendon Show and Country Fair takes place in the village on Sunday, August 14.
The Masters of Exmoor Foxhounds are presidents of this year's show, including Tony Wright, who was famously the first hunstman to be prosecuted under the Hunting Act in 2005 and later had his conviction overturned.
He is celebrating 30 years as a hunstman on Exmoor this year.
Attractions at the event will include a horse and pony show, the North Devon Beagles, craft stalls and a car boot sale.
Local TV shepherd David Kennard will make an appearance with his sheepdogs and there will be a sheering competition at 2pm, between Cutcombe Young Farmers and Blackmoor Gate Young Farmers.
At 1pm, there will be a family dog show and a stag horn competition.
Terrier racing takes place at 12.15pm and again at 5pm and there will be a gymkhana at 2.15pm.
