Bridging the Gap
We have a room in our school called The Bridge. It is a
place where we can go to work out how to overcome our challenges so we can
succeed. We think of all the things we are good at so we feel great about

with the help of a local author called Sue Boyd. Sue has written 3 books
already. One of her books has been put on a Kindle. Her friend, Jamie, downloaded it and invited Sue into Ilfracombe Junior school to meet us and help us with our writing every Wednesday afternoon. At the moment we
are planning our ideas with her. We do this in lots of different ways like drawing,
making story boards and mind maps, dictating our ideas to someone and helping
each other spell words as we write.
We decided to call the book we are writing 'The Bridge' because on one side there can be ignorance and misconceptions about dyslexia and on the other side we can show what can be achieved. As Connor said, "People think we're thick, but this will show them we're not, we're just different."
Sue's aim is to impart to children the pleasure that books can bring to them and how they can enrich their lives immeasureably.She adds, "I don't think there is anything quite like the feel or smell of a new book and the anticipation of where it will take you and what new experiences it will fire your imagination with.
Twenty years ago, Sue was told she had a writer's thumb - straight as an arrow. She is still scribbling away and loving every moment of it.

Today Alex wrote:- My life was nothing. One day I went
home and I drew a picture that I brought to school. Jamie saw the artwork and
told me about an author named Sue. Jamie got some other kids. We came to a
meeting, now I feel like a real author!
Keep an eye out for our book in the future. We are
calling it The Bridge. From Connor, Codie, Jake, Jayke, Cameron, Lewis,
Kimberley, Frankie, Molly, Jackson and Alex and Sue at Ilfracombe Church of
England Junior School.
