DIGGERS and bulldozers are working in Bideford College as the old buildings make way for the new to open next month.

Students will move into the college's £55 million building when they return from the summer holidays in September.

Currently the former canteen and old classrooms are being knocked to the ground to make way for what will eventually become sports courts.

Hundreds of tonnes of earth and concrete are being removed and to stick with the building's environmentally-friendly ethos all the old materials are to be recycled.

Earlier this month the Davie building, which housed the maths department, was demolished and the keys to the new building handed over.

Tours of the new college, which include new science, technology, drama, music, media, PE and art learning areas as well as the Faraday Theatre, The Devon Hall and the Sports Hall are also taking place.
