Busy weekend for Devon’s air ambulances in North Devon
Both of Devon’s air ambulances were called into action this weekend attending six different incidents across North Devon on Friday and Saturday.
The first call-out of the weekend came at 3.19pm on Friday when a woman suffered a “medical problem” in Wembworthy. The North Devon air ambulance, based at Eaglescott Airfield, rushed to the scene and the casualty was flown to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford) for treatment.

Just 20 minutes later, an elderly woman collapsed in Shillingford near Bampton. Due to the North Devon air ambulance being tied up with the earlier incident, the Exeter-based aircraft flew to the scene and the woman was flown to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.
Saturday was an even busier day for the air ambulance crews, with a total of four incidents in North Devon.

The first call-out came at 9.12am when the Eaglescott- based air ambulance was called over to Bideford.
An elderly man was unconscious after suffering a medical collapse. He was flown to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford).
Just two minutes later, while the Eaglescott-based aircraft was attending this incident, the air ambulance control room received a call-out to Holsworthy.
The Exeter-based air ambulance was called to the scene after a man suffered a medical collapse. He was also flown to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
Shortly after midday, the Eaglescott-based air ambulance was called over to Ilfracombe to collect an elderly female. The crew said she suffered a “medical problem” and needed transferring to hospital quickly so they flew her to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
While the North Devon helicopter was attending that incident, the control room received another 999 call and the Exeter-based aircraft had to be deployed to Holsworthy.
An adult male suffered cardiac problems at around 1.10pm and had to be collected and flown to North Devon District Hospital for treatment.
On Monday, the air ambulance was called into action again when a man fell from a roof in Chawleigh.
