Campaigners welcome new footpath
A NEW footpath costing an estimated £77,000 is to be built in Hartland.
Devon County Council has approved plans for the scheme on the B3248 which will improve accessibility and road safety for pedestrians.
The new footpath will run between the old coastguard station at Eastdown and Hartland village on the bend near Harton Cross.
Concerns had been raised about the speed of traffic and the safety of pedestrians walking from Eastdown into Hartland.
Earlier this year the speed limit on the road from Eastdown Park into the village, which is used by children walking to school, was lowered from 60mph to 40mph.
Campaigners were delighted and had claimed there had been a number of near misses and it was only a matter of time before a serious or fatal accident occurred.
Devon County Council says the new footpath will be 1.2m wide, 300m in length and will be constructed on the highway verge.
