Police said it was unclear exactly what happened but said one car ended up on its side in a field after crashing through a hedge.
Officers said a blue Honda Jazz, a green Range Rover and a HGV Volvo all suffered damage in the incident but were unable to confirm which vehicle ended up in the field.
It is understood the HGV Volvo was working to repaint lines on the road at the time of the incident.
Nobody was hurt in the crash, although all drivers were given ‘words of advice’ by police officers at the scene.
Police said traffic queues were heavy in the area, with traffic building in both directions while emergency services dealt with the crash scene.
All vehicles were recovered from the road by midday and it was reopened as usual to motorists.
