THE DRIVER of this car was lucky to escape uninjured after crashing on the snowy B3358 road between Simonsbath and Challacombe on Monday.

Police were called to the scene around 1.30am to find the Mitsubishi vehicle burnt out and on its side in the road.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and police are hoping to speak to the driver to find out how the crash happened.

A driver who passed the scene around 9am on Monday said: "It looked like the car skidded in the snow, rode up the bank, turned over and caught fire.

"The car was sitting in the carriageway on a bend.

"Luckily the fire had melted a lot of the snow on the road, which was deep everywhere else, so traffic could pass."

The vehicle was recovered later that morning.
