Firefighters were called to a property in Bideford on Saturday following reports of a carbon monoxide leak.

Fire crews from Bideford and a gas detector from Barnstaple attended the domestic terraced property in Brecon Close at around 2pm.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a gas analyser to detect for gas and confirmed trace readings of carbon monoxide within the property.

A gas engineer attended to make the property safe. The occupants had been alerted to the leak by a carbon monoxide detector.

These people were so lucky that had the detectors or else this could have been a tragic story.”
