Cash helps sport at lake
A £2.5 MILLION project to improve sporting sites across the South West is set to benefit Roadford Lake.
South West Lakes Trust's Outdoor 'n' Active project has received a £175,000 cash boost from Sport England to improve activities on and around its lakes.
The money will be spent on sites including Roadford Lake near Broadwoodwidger which will soon be able to offer new sporting opportunities. The Trust says by 2012, most of its sites will offer a huge range of sports including canoeing, sailing, orienteering, archery, fishing and climbing.
James Platts, of the Trust, said: "With Sport England's help, we will be able to harness the excitement of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, by offering the right activities, delivered by the right people in the right places to increase participation."
Chairman of Sport England Richard Lewis added: "Everyone should have the chance to find the sport they really enjoy. The projects we're investing in today will help us tackle the barriers to participation in rural areas."
