Charley Charlesworth
Name: Charley Charlesworth.
Age: Older than Taj, younger than Kelly.
Lives: Braunton.
Surfs: Croyde mainly. Also P Land, Saunton and a few secret spots now and again.
How long have you been surfing? About 17 years but I gave up and got fat for six of those.
What got you involved with surfing? Initially my Dad and my friends, and then my waistline got me back into it.
Who rips in North Devon? All the Croyde boys, especially Adam, Scott, Carlo, Waxer and Lyndon — they all kill it.
Who's the best up-and-coming surfer in the area? Tough, but I'd say little Jack Dayan and Beau are real keen beans at the moment.
What's your most memorable session and why? One morning last winter, 4ft perfect barrels . . . can't say where though.
What is the best thing about surfing for you? Getting barrelled I guess.
What would you say to people wanting to get involved with the sport? Start young and go every day no matter how bad it is.
Where else have you surfed in the world? All over Europe, Morocco . . . and Westward Ho!
How does North Devon compare to other global surf spots? Pretty well on its day.
What's the worst thing about surfing? Crowds and flat spells.
Your opinion on hired equipment? Hire it and take it somewhere safe like Saunton.
What about surf schools, anything to say? Use them to learn and listen to their advice for when you finish.
Have you had any nasty injuries surfing? I tore my knee ligaments two years ago, couldn't surf for three months and it sucked.
Best wave you've surfed? Morocco for consistency, Croyde low tide for the barrels and the beatings.
Most overrated wave? Croyde low tide!
Most underrated wave? Middle beach Woolacombe can be fun sometimes.
Are you sponsored? Yeah, I have a lot of help from Surfed Out and West Wetsuits. Thanks guys. If anyone wants to give me other stuff, get in touch.
What do you think about competitive surfing? Just got back into it and have really enjoyed it this year, it helps your surfing loads.
Competition results? Third in the Al Rann Memorial, Semis in the Jesus Surf Classic and the Big Move Creation Fest Event. And part of the winning Analog Tag Team event.
Anything else to say? Live and die by this motto. If someone else is in, go in.
