A LAND of snow will be given a magical touch when students from the Hartley Williamson School Of Dance perform the eternally popular ballet, Nutcracker, on Saturday. Dancing the part of Clara to the beautiful Tchaikovsky score will be 10-year-old Ella Fraser Smith.

"She is very excited to play the heroine of the Nutcracker, whose magical journey though the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets are a reward for her kindness and love for the poor, ugly Nutcracker Doll who nobody else wants," said school principal Maralyn Williamson.

Younger students, meanwhile, will dance a new work based on the Oscar Wilde Story, The Selfish Giant, with music by Dan Goeller. Playing the Special Child in the piece will be four-year-old Zivah Fouche, a nursery pupil at West Buckland School. She will dance alongside Jonathan Ralph, a housemaster in the senior department of the school, who plays the Giant.

"In the story, the Special Child melts the heart of the Selfish Giant and shows him that by sharing what we have and loving one another we make the world and ourselves much happier," said Maralyn.
