Chivenor Search and Rescue helicopter called out on medical transfer

A Search and Rescue crew from RMB Chivenor carried out a medical transfer from a naval ship last night.

The Chivenor crew were training in Bideford Bay when they received the call at 8.40pm.

HMS Richmond, a frigate based at Portsmouth, was on a training exercise at the time of the incident.

The Chivenor crew flew to the vessel which was just north of Lundy Island.

They collected a 19-year-old man who had suffered anaphylactic shock and flew him to North Devon District Hospital. He had reported to the medical team earlier the day to say he felt unwell.

The crew then returned to RMB Chivenor at 9.45pm.
