Circus brings jaw-dropping feats
Chinese State Circus
Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe
Sunday, February 5, to Monday, February 6
ROLL UP, roll up the circus is in town. Not just any old circus with its customary thrills, spills and spectacles but one that has a first-rate reputation for being truly astonishing and hair-raising.
We're talking the legendary Bicycle Act (12 people on a single bike), a sensational contortionist and foot juggling with drums.
"We jumped at the chance of hosting the Chinese State Circus at the Landmark Theatre," said North Devon Theatres' programme director Alan Dodd. "A show of this size – with such a wow factor, doesn't come around often.
"It's the circus' first European tour and a theatre rather than a marquee show – which we think will fit really well in the Landmark."
As well as such daring stunts, the show also includes the more delicate and beautiful side of Chinese tradition with a silk aerial act, parasol juggling and the eye-catching Lion Dance. All are accompanied by a group of female musicians.
You can safely expect a jaw-dropping, breathtaking fusion of precision acrobatics, martial arts, live music and dazzling circus skills. Described in The Observer as a "show of daunting athleticism" it promises to be electric entertainment for the whole family.
"It can be a gloomy time of a year but here is a fabulous, family orientated show, which we think with its amazing skill, artistry and spectacle, will lift the spirits," added Alan.
