The Holsworthy Community College student said she is pleased to be given the honour. She said: "It's a great honour and I am delighted to be representing all the other cadets in my area.
"I firmly believe that anyone, whatever age, can learn first aid and would like to see more young people like me learning the skills that can save a life.
"St John Ambulance can teach you how to save someone's life but being a member also helps you develop leadership and other skills that can be used in everyday life."
Katrina has put the first aid skills to the test when helped an elderly man who had fallen down.
She said: "He couldn't move due to being in too much pain in his arm and neck.
"I reassured him and called 999 for ambulance, keeping him still, and a doctor then arrived on the scene.
"Thankfully nothing was broken but the man thanks me every time I see him in the street."
Katrina is due to take part in the National Cadet of the Year competition starting on Friday April, 5 at Leicester University.
Dave Christophers, Regional Youth Manager for St John Ambulance in the South West, said: "The standard of Cadets was extremely high and it was a tough decision to make.
"Katrina is a great example of a dedicated volunteer who truly believe in the difference that first aid can make to saving someone's life.
"She is a great advocate for St John Ambulance and exactly the kind of person we were looking for to lead Cadets in the district.
"I am sure she will have a fantastic year and really make the most of all the opportunities it offers her."
