The Exeter-based agency said the region would be less cold today than it has been recently but warned of a drop in temperatures as the week progresses.
A Met Office forecast said: “It will be less cold than of late for most of the region through today with some light rain gradually clearing, then a mainly dry week and becoming colder again across most parts.
“The temperatures threshold will be marginal across western parts of the region through this week but is very likely to be exceeded in eastern areas from Tuesday onwards.”
The grade two cold weather alert warns the public to be vigilant and ready for severe cold weather. Forecasters predict an 80% probability of severe cold weather and icy conditions in Devon and Cornwall this week.

“Whilst very grateful for these cold weather updates it is still winter and "cold weather" is usually
the accepted condition. It would just be wonderful if the weather men could warn us in advance (without getting it wrong that is) of any major unexpected changes in the weather that will affect us.”

“And possibly the worst, and most dangerous, weather conditions freezing rain and freezing fog. Lots of it about at the moment so take care when driving.”
