A 52YEAR-OLD man suffered serious injuries after accidentally shooting himself with a shotgun in Combe Martin yesterday evening.

Police and ambulance crews were called to West Leigh Farm at around 10.30pm after reports that a man injured to his arm following the unintentional discharge of a 12-bore shotgun.

Ambulance staff were first to arrive and treated the injuries which had resulted from the blast.

The man is now in Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital where he has undergone surgery.

A police spokesman said: "Armed police were deployed as a routine measure with such an incident.

"The man was taken to hospital for emergency surgery and police conducted an investigation at the scene.

"Enquiries are continuing but the incident is not deemed suspicious and is thought that the man dropped the weapon on the floor resulting in an accidental discharge."
