Surfers look for a space in the sea as the summer gets into full swing at Woolacombe beach in North Devon.
The stunning summer weather continued in the Westcountry as holiday hotspot beaches thronged with people.
In a sight guaranteed to warm the heart of every tourist-related business owner, Devon and Cornwall enjoyed relentless sunshine and sweltering temperatures.
Forecasters said that the hottest day of the year so far was recorded at St James’ Park in London, where temperatures peaked at just over 30 degrees.

But weather forecasters are already warning of a change ahead.
They issued an advanced warning for next week when it looks like a return to the more normal British summer of sunshine and showers.
Barry Gromett, forecaster with the Met Office, said it would be lovely until the weekend, when a turning point was on the cards.
“There will be another couple of good days, but we will see a bit of a change from Friday.
“I think Friday will still be mainly fine, but there might be the odd rogue shower around, although I don’t think it will come to much.”
Mr Gromett said that until then, he expected temperatures to be in the mid-20s across the region.
“Saturday may be fine, with perhaps the odd shower,” he said.
“By next week there will be a return to the more normal conditions: a mixture of sunshine and showers.”
Mr Gromett said he expected the weather to be more changeable next week in general, with temperatures around the 20 degrees mark.
