Council approves plans for wine bar at former shop on Ilfracombe Quay
PLANS to transform a derelict Ilfracombe shop into a wine bar have been approved by North Devon Council.
In January the Journal reported that Andrew Maslen, owner of 4 The Quay, had applied for planning permission to convert the premises into a wine bar and restaurant with up to 40 covers.

The shop, just yards from Damien Hirst’s 11 The Quay bar and restaurant, used to house nautical shop Forestay but has been empty since November.
The plans, which include the installation of a new shop front, kitchen and unisex toilet, were approved by North Devon Council’s planning department on March 11.

In a supporting statement submitted with the application, Mr Maslen said: “It is intended this proposal would be targeted at a hitherto largely untapped sector of the market and will further enhance the varied selection of hospitality venues on offer.
“The intention is to focus primarily on ‘Wine Drinking’ as an experience with a specifically tailored selection of hot and cold food dishes.”
