A SPECIAL Educational Needs school in Barnstaple could see its pupil numbers grow by 25% later this year.

If plans from Devon County Council, which are currently under consultation, go ahead then Lampard Community School will offer 100 places for pupils from September, as opposed to the 80 it currently has.

The school, on St John's Lane, caters for children aged seven to 16 with complex needs and autistic spectrum disorder. And with an increased demand for places at schools offering those services Devon County Council has opted to look into expanding the school.

In a consultation document the council says the school has sufficient room to accommodate the extra pupils but also says it plans to carry out building work on site.
