HATHERLEIGH were denied promotion from the C division by Dartington and Totnes's thrashing of Ivybridge.

While Hatherleigh had a low-scoring win over fellow challengers Clyst Hydon, it was not enough to dislodge Dartington from the runners-up spot.

They shot out Ivybridge for just 72 to record a 173-run win that brought them 20 points to finish three clear of third place.

So while Hatherleigh took only 17 points from their win, they had the consolation of knowing that even a maximum haul would not have been enough.

Had they been level on points, Dartington would still have gone up with ten wins to Hatherleigh's nine.

Luke Reynolds's 27 was the best effort in Hatherleigh's 149 for seven off 46 overs, which also featured 26 from Russell Davies and 24 not out from Nick Rogers, who bowled his side to victory in the Clyst reply.

They were well placed at 100 for five before Rogers took five wickets for nine runs in 23 balls. Richard Tidball and Simon Gillespie took two wickets each.
