Death-crash pilot fails to get jail sentence reduced
A former airline pilot and police driver who killed a father-of-two in a road accident has lost an appeal against his one-year prison sentence.
Daniel Elliott, 41, was trying to overtake a line of cars when he ran into 43-year-old Warren Jackson's motorbike on the A31 at Almer, near Blandford, Dorset last April. Elliott, of Ashwater, Devon, admitted causing the Poole man's death by driving without due care and attention and was jailed at Bournemouth Crown Court in November.

Yesterday, he appealed, but was told by three senior judges in London that there was nothing wrong with a 12-month sentence for such a serious offence. However, Mr Justice Cranston, sitting with Lord Justice Hughes and Mr Justice Beatson, did cut his driving ban from three to two years.
