Every highway authority in the country has to keep comprehensive records about every single road or lane within their area whether privately or publically owned.  The records help the Council coordinate highway maintenance efficiently and also help toward working more closely with the county's District authorities with other aspects of planning.

The Award recognised that Devon's road network, which is the largest of all authorities in the country, is recorded in such detail and with such accuracy that the Council was deserving of national recognition for the way it maintains the information.

The judges based their criteria on the overall quality of local street datasets, giving particular focus to data quality and compliance to National Improvement Schedules.

It was acknowledged that regions continue to play an important role in improvements to local street datasets and Devon County Council impressed in overcoming their own local challenges as well as meeting national demands.

The Exemplar Awards celebrate excellence in service delivery that has been enabled through local government address and street information.  They recognised the vital role address and street information professionals play in local service delivery, celebrating their achievements and providing external acknowledgement of innovation, creativity, best practice, hard work and achievement.
