ALL NORTH Devon's teams in the Francis Clark Devon League will be playing "win-lose cricket" this year.

The format, similar to one-day internationals, was tried out in the premier division last summer.

At the annual meeting in Exeter on Friday, clubs voted overwhelmingly in favour of introducing it to the whole league.

It means a team batting second will no longer be able to block out for a draw.

North Devon, in the premier division, and Braunton and Hatherleigh, in the A division, will play 50 overs a side, with powerplays, fielding restrictions and bowlers limited to ten overs each.

The only difference in the B and C divisions, which include Barnstaple and Pilton and Bideford respectively, is that teams will play 45 overs a side with a nine overs per bowler limit.

In the D division, Filleigh will play 45 overs a side with no powerplays or fielding restrictions.

Clubs voted against introducing a registration process for second XI players.

Rob Gear accepted the premier division club of the season award, based on umpires' reports, on behalf of North Devon at Friday's meeting.

Bideford, Braunton and Filleigh received framed certificates acknowledging they had achieved ECB Clubmark accreditation.

Ian Roberts will captain Braunton in the Devon League this summer.

The batsman takes over from Jon Baglow, the left-arm seamer, who has stepped down after four years in the role.

Braunton have lost promising young Devon off-spinner Harry Booker to premier division side Exeter.

Zimbabwean all-rounder Glenn Querl is to return for a third season with North Devon.

The Instow club needs scorers and umpires for the new season. Anyone interested should call Tony Richards, the honorary secretary, on 01237 477158.
