Devon highways crews on alert as heavy rain is forecast for weekend
Motorists are being advised to take care on the region’s roads this weekend as another spell of heavy rain hits Devon and Cornwall.
Devon County Council’s highways crews will be on standby over the weekend to deal with any potential flooding or emergencies caused by the wet weather.
Forecasters are predicting heavy rain until Christmas Eve, with amber-graded weather warnings in place for Devon on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Residents are advised to be prepared for the possibility of localised flooding, while motorists are being warned of the dangers of driving through floodwater.

A spokesman for Devon County Council said: “Motorists are being advised not to drive through floodwater or fords with heightened flows.
“Driving at night in these conditions can be especially hazardous as some storm damage or floods are not readily visible.
“Drivers should also be aware that problems on minor roads may not be brought to the attention of the highways teams or the emergency services straight away, so travel carefully.”
